The Day My Son Almost Died on My Watch: the mental toll of caring for a child with a chronic disease

It's been seven years since Luke's type 1 diagnosis. I'm incredibly proud of how he manages his care without complaint. This week he sat outside Slinky dog roller coaster for 20 minutes with stubborn low blood sugar before he could ride.

I's also been a lot on me as a caretaker. You can't talk about caretaking because the focus should be on the child. But managing a child with a chronic disease or exceptionality is difficult. I will always be his biggest advocate, but I have to be my own advocate as well.

I share my thoughts in my latest piece on Medium. Thanks for reading and clapping.
